Laugh-Out-Loud Awesome Jokes for Kids

Rob Elliott's Laugh-Out-Loud Awesome Jokes for Kids is a joke book for 6 year olds who love nothing more than a groan from the grown-ups.

What happens

There's no story and no chapters. It's just one joke after another, from the first page to the last, with a little run of tongue twisters near the end.

Most are quick question-and-answer puns. What do you call a fake noodle? An im-pasta. Where do you take a bad rainbow? To prism. There are LOTS of knock-knocks, plus tiny back-and-forth jokes between two friends and a few patients telling their doctor they're turning into a piano.

Some land straight away for a six-year-old. The cow's favourite painting (the Moo-na Lisa) and the pig who had to rise and swine will get a giggle before you've finished reading them out.

Others need a bit of grown-up help, which is half the fun. A pun only works once you know both meanings, and explaining why a sleepy piece of wood is "board" can turn into its own little lesson in words.

It's an American book, so a handful of jokes lean on American things. A quarter is a coin (hence the one about change being hard to bend). Cookies, soda and the honor roll all turn up too. None of it gets in the way, but you might be asked what a quarter is.

The jokes are clean, the sort you can happily hear at the dinner table.

This is very much a book for reading out loud. If your reader likes being the one who asks the question and waits for you to guess, they'll be at it all through tea. The tongue twisters are great for that too (try "sheep sleep sweet" three times fast).

It also works in little bits. Dip in for five jokes before bed or read a whole run on a car journey.
