Dragon Girls 9 – Stella the Starlight Dragon

Maddy Mara's Stella the Starlight Dragon is a sparkly Magic Forest adventure for 6 year olds about a girl who wishes on stars, until all the stars go missing.

What happens

Stella, Rosie and Phoebe have a sleepover every Friday. They also share a huge secret. When a special song calls them, they're whisked into the Magic Forest and turned into Night Dragons.

Stella is the Starlight Dragon, purple and yellow with stars on her wings. The friends have been called twice before, and this time Stella gets to lead the quest.

It happens right in the middle of their midnight feast. One of the embroidered stars on Stella's quilt shoots across the fabric like a comet, and off she goes.

In the Magic Forest, every single star has vanished from the sky. Nobody can make wishes any more. The Tree Queen thinks the Fire Queen is behind it, and she's been seen in the forest herself.

So the Night Dragons follow a magic thread to the Star Fields. There they find a dance school for baby stars, run by a very dramatic pink show pony called Madame Prancey. To find out more, the dragons have to audition. Can three dragons twinkle?

It's gentle, bouncy stuff and just right for children starting to read chapter books on their own. Stella's keen and a bit clumsy (she crashes into a tree when she lands, and blames the tree). A cartwheeling starfish called LuckyStar pops up to help.

There's a nice idea tucked underneath too. The Fire Sparks make everyone feel cross, and the girls have learned to use that feeling to get things done instead of letting it take over. If your little one has big feelings, it might be a lovely thing to chat about.
