Dragon Girls 7 – Rosie the Twilight Dragon

Maddy Mara's Rosie the Twilight Dragon is a Dragon Girls adventure for 6 year olds about a daydreamer who turns into a dragon in the middle of a sleepover.

What happens

Friday night is Sleepover Club for Rosie and her best friends, Phoebe and Stella. Their favourite thing is "twilight TV", which means sitting in Phoebe's window seat with snacks and watching the sunset.

Rosie is a big daydreamer. She sets off to wash her hands and ends up unrolling her sleeping bag instead (oops).

Then the soap bubbles in Phoebe's bathroom start to sing. They float up, the plants turn into trees, and suddenly Rosie is standing in a magical forest. Her legs are covered in pink and purple scales. She's a DRAGON!

A little cat-bat called GlidyCat tells her she's a Night Dragon. And when she flies to meet the Tree Queen, Phoebe and Stella are there too, as dragons!

But the Magic Forest has a problem. It's stuck at twilight and night won't come. The Fire Queen's sparks are popping the daydream bubbles that drift down from the clouds, and without daydreams, night can't fall.

What's lovely is how Rosie's daydreaming (the thing that gets her in trouble at school) turns out to be exactly what the quest needs. The Tree Queen even tells her to let her daydreams guide her.

It's gentle and full of friendship. There's flying hand in paw, a net woven from magic thread and a roar that smells like plums and lavender. Who wouldn't want a roar like that?

The Fire Sparks make the girls feel cross and grumpy, but roaring together blows them away.
