Coco the Cupcake Fairy

Daisy Meadows's Coco the Cupcake Fairy is a sweet, silly fairy adventure for 5 year olds with a VERY greedy villain.

What happens

Rachel is staying with her best friend Kirsty for the holidays, and it's nearly Kirsty's birthday. The girls also share a big secret. They're friends with the fairies, and Jack Frost has just stolen the magic charms that keep treats tasty everywhere.

Without them, everything goes wrong. When the girls try to bake cupcakes, the eggs smash, the flour goes everywhere and the icing turns grey. Then a tiny voice squeaks from inside one of the cupcake cases!

It's Coco, with a blob of cake mixture on the end of her nose. She needs help to get her magic cupcake charm back.

The trail leads to the new cupcake shop in the village, where the cakes look suspiciously perfect. Inside is a man in an ice-blue cape with a gang of green-faced "kids". (Your reader will know exactly who they are.)

Jack Frost is hilarious here. He carries photos of himself around to look at, and he's ordered hundreds of cupcakes to build himself a throne. When the baker points out they'll get squashed, he roars "Are you calling me FAT?"

Coco shrinks the girls to fairy size, and they hide in the shop pretending to be cake decorations. It's a lovely bit of tension for little ones, because a goblin very nearly eats Rachel! Then Kirsty comes up with a clever plan to send the goblins slipping and sliding.

It's everything you'd hope for from a Rainbow Magic book. One problem, solved by the end, with plenty of giggles and a kind finish where the girls help the baker sell all his leftover cakes.

Coco is the third of seven Sugar and Spice Fairies, so the girls have already helped two of her friends before it begins. The story explains everything you need, so it reads fine on its own.
