Caitlin the Ice Bear Fairy

Daisy Meadows' Caitlin the Ice Bear Fairy is a short, sparkly adventure for 5 year olds about rescuing a little bear cub from Jack Frost.

What happens

It's the last day of adventure camp for Kirsty and Rachel, and there's still one magical animal missing. She's Crystal, a white ice bear cub, and she belongs to Caitlin the Ice Bear Fairy.

This is the last book in the Magical Animal Fairies run. The girls have already helped find a baby dragon, a unicorn and four more, so Crystal is the final one.

Each animal has its own special power, and Crystal's is courage. So when Kirsty suddenly wants to climb a tree on a slippery hill, Rachel is baffled. Why is her friend being so brave? (The cub must be close by!)

Then they find Jack Frost, holding Crystal on an icy leash.

What follows is a proper little rescue. The girls fly off to Fairyland and sneak into his Ice Castle, magicked to look like goblins. The disguise doesn't last long, though. Kirsty's nose is getting less pointy by the minute!

The best bit is the ice pops. Jack Frost wants a green one. The "goblins" keep handing him red and yellow ones and insisting they're green. It's a very silly argument and younger readers will love being in on the joke.

There's a scary moment, with Jack Frost firing icy lightning bolts round his throne room. It's the Rainbow Magic kind of scary though, over quickly and followed by a party.

Your reader doesn't need to have met Rachel and Kirsty before. Everything they need about the missing animals is explained in a few lines.
