Betty Goes Bananas

bySteve Antony

Steve Antony's Betty Goes Bananas is a funny, very relatable picture book for 5 year olds about a hungry little one and a banana that won't do what she wants.

What happens

Betty wants that banana. But it won't open! She tries her hands, her teeth and even her feet.

So she has a tantrum. A proper one. WAAAAAA, sniff sniff, BANG BANG, AAAAAA!

Mr Toucan waits for her to calm down, then shows her how to peel it. But it was HER banana and SHE wanted to peel it. Cue meltdown number two.

Then the banana breaks. You can probably guess what happens next (and it's even louder).

Each meltdown comes with the same big noisy words, so your reader will be joining in by the second one. Mr Toucan never shouts back. He keeps calm and tells her she doesn't need to do all that, every single time.

Parents of little ones will recognise every bit of this. Young readers will love watching someone else lose it for a change, and there's a lovely YUM when Betty finally gets to eat.

But keep an eye on the very last line...
