Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure

Kimberly Morris's Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is a Pixie Hollow adventure for 6 year olds about a fairy who breaks the one thing she was trusted to look after.

What happens

It's autumn, and there's going to be a rare blue harvest moon. Tink is chosen to make the new Autumn Scepter for the big celebration. At the top goes a precious moonstone. When the blue moon shines through it, it makes blue pixie dust to keep the Pixie Dust Tree strong. No pressure, then!

Her friend Terence, a dust-keeper fairy, offers to help. And he helps. And helps. He sweeps round her feet while she's working, pumps the bellows until she's covered in soot and tells her things she already knows. (Who hasn't had a helper like that?)

Tink bites her tongue for days. Then it all goes wrong at once. The scepter gets smashed, she shouts at Terence to get out, and one angry kick later the moonstone is in pieces.

At a fairy theatre show that night, she hears a tale about the Mirror of Incanta. It grants wishes, it has one wish left, and it was lost in a shipwreck on an island north of Never Land. So Tink builds a balloon out of cotton balls and an old gourd, and sets off alone to find it. Well, almost alone. A greedy baby firefly stows away and eats all her food.

It's full of noisy fun. There are crashes and bangs, a boat that ends up at the top of a tree, and Tink doing a furious little dance behind Terence's back when he says how calm she's being. When she's cross she tries counting to ten like Fairy Mary does, and it doesn't really work.

Underneath the adventure, it's a story about falling out with a friend. Tink isn't all good and Terence isn't all annoying. Both of them get hurt feelings, and you can see it from each side.

If your reader has ever lost their temper with someone who was only trying to help, they'll probably feel a bit sheepish on Tink's behalf. And if they love a fairy who fixes things, invents things and gets it wrong sometimes, Tink is great company.
