Sean Bryan's The Juggling Pug is a very silly rhyming picture book for 5 year olds about a famous dog with terrible manners.
The pug can juggle. That's his big talent, and it's made his whole town famous. So everyone lets him get away with things. Smashed plates. Broken mugs. Tugged curtains. Even the odd poop on the rug (they just shrug).
Then one girl snaps. There are holes all over her garden and he's guzzled every last one of her fizzy drinks. She stamps her foot and says the pug has to go!
The pug promises to change, the town has a big hug and everyone makes up. And then comes the very end... let's just say he hasn't changed THAT much.
Nearly every line ends on the same sound, which is half the fun. Pug, rug, hug, mug, shrug, chugged. It's brilliant out loud, and your reader will probably start shouting the rhymes before you get there.
It's worth knowing there's a bit of toilet humour, a burp and the word "jerk". Most young readers will think that's hilarious.
