Phillipe Llamar is Agent 0011 of the League of Llamas. He's brave, he can do a triple somersault and he's VERY proud of his fringe. What he can't do is remember things. Like the code to the villain's office door.
Luckily his partner Lloyd wrote it down. Lloyd is Agent 0013 and he's always eating. Prawns, oysters, the boss's sofa (quite a lot of the boss's sofa).
Their enemy is General Bottomburp, a badger who lives up to his name. When he catches Phillipe in his study, the pair of them end up in a burping-against-parping contest. Your reader will know straight away if this is their sort of book!
Then the greatest treasure in the whole Llama Republic goes missing. The Golden Llama, a statue of a spitting llama, has vanished from its museum. The only clue is a silver earring shaped like dancing llamas. It seems to belong to the lady llama in the red dress they met at the badger's party. Who is she, anyway?
The jokes come thick and fast. There are llama puns everywhere (Mount Killamamanjaro, the Llamaborghini, "no prob-llama"). Gadgets go wrong. A car's badger defence system turns out to fire worms. And there's one very long bathroom scene after Phillipe swallows a memory stick and drinks a whole bottle of Turbo Llama Lax.
Worth a word on the rough and tumble. Badger bodyguards pile in with kicks and punches, and the villain plans to throw Phillipe to the piranhas. It's cartoon stuff and it's over quickly. But if you'd rather skip toilet humour, this one has LOTS of it.
For a child who laughs hardest at burps and bottoms, it's a total winner. The chapters are short and most of them stop on a cliffhanger, so it's easy to read aloud a chapter at a time.
If they want more animal secret agents, Spy Penguins has a young penguin desperate to join the Frosty Bureau of Investigation, and a best friend whose gadgets don't always do what they're meant to.
