It's the sisters who make it. Goldie is dramatic and adores fashion (she'd quite like the Christmas tree skirt as an actual skirt). Sylva is the little one who gets carried away. Clara worries about everyone. Rosy looks after baby Squeak, who talks in her own words that mostly only Rosy understands.
They squabble just like real sisters. By Christmas Eve they're tired and cross and taking it out on each other. But when anyone else makes them feel bad, they stick together.
The presents are a highlight, too. With only three stones each, they have to be clever, and some of what they make is more thoughtful than anything they could have bought. It's a sweet message about what Christmas is for, without being preachy.
