Beast Quest 17 – Tusk the Mighty Mammoth

Adam Blade's Tusk the Mighty Mammoth is a Beast Quest adventure for 7 year olds about a giant mammoth with poisoned golden tusks.

What happens

Tom and Elenna are far from home in Gorgonia, the kingdom of Malvel the Dark Wizard, where the sky is red and nothing good seems to grow. This isn't their first quest there. Tom's shield already holds tokens from the good Beasts of Avantia, and his newest power is his favourite yet. His shadow can peel off, run ahead and let him see through its eyes!

Then his shield starts to glow. Ferno the Fire Dragon, one of Avantia's good Beasts, is in trouble.

They find him deep in a rotting forest, wrapped tight in snake ferns. These are nasty plants that grab and squeeze and don't let go. Elenna finds that out the hard way and ends up dangling upside down in the treetops.

And guarding Ferno is Tusk. She's as tall as the trees, with a trunk like a snake and two golden tusks dripping with something that stinks.

There's loads packed in. A sword fight with Seth, a boy who serves Malvel. Gorgonian rebels with grappling hooks. A plan that goes wrong when Tom's shadow wanders too far away. Elenna gets hurt, which leaves Tom torn between staying with his friend and finishing the quest.

Tom's the hero, but Elenna is a real star in this one. She's the one who tells him to go and save Ferno while she's still tangled up in the ferns!

The battles are bloody for this shelf. Tom drives his sword into the mammoth's foot and the blood spurts. Elenna is poisoned by a tusk. Seth tells Tom he'll enjoy killing him. A Beast Quest fan will probably expect that sort of thing, but a child who gets upset about animals being hurt may not enjoy the fighting.
