A year ago the Butterworths won a Scottish island. Now she has three rescue donkeys, including Sunshine, the littlest and boldest, who happens to be terrified of beaches. Her big sister Margot is learning to fly and her little brother Fabien bakes cakes for his goats.<\/p>\n
Then a town meeting in the pub-shop brings bad news. A company called Gold Rush Properties wants to turn Wishnook into the Las Vegas of Scotland, complete with a casino shaped like an octopus. If Mum’s yoga retreats lose their guests, Luna could lose the island and the donkeys with it.<\/p>\n
So she has a plan. She’ll make a movie about everything that’s brilliant about Wishnook and show it to the judge at the court appeal. There are twelve days to go. She’s never made a film in her life!<\/p>\n
Her best friend Kai lends her a very fancy camera. Her first shot ends with Sunshine bolting down the beach towards Mum’s baby-yoga class (and a baby being sick on someone’s head).<\/p>\n
It’s that kind of book. There’s always something daft going on in the background. Dad whittles seagulls and hands them out as presents whether you want one or not. Fabien can’t understand why nobody wants a knitted swimming costume. The mayor pole-vaults on to the bar with a stale French stick!<\/p>\n
But there’s a real worry under the jokes. Margot quite fancies a job at the new resort, and Luna can’t believe her own sister might be on the other side. Then the town’s only journalist announces she’s making a rival movie. The squabbles feel very real, and so does the moment Luna climbs on to a crab stall with the whole town watching and has to find her voice.<\/p>\n
This is actually the second book about Luna’s family. It opens with them already settled on the island, so if your reader likes to start at the beginning, We Won an Island tells how they got there.<\/p>\n
